MEDIA ADVISORY: Kochmar, Kasem family’s bill to prevent elder isolation gets public hearing tomorrow, Jan. 20

Rep. Linda Kochmar, R-Federal Way, teamed up with the family of former Top-40 disc jockey Casey Kasem to introduce House Bills 2401 and 2402, which address elder isolation.
The public hearing will take place at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20, in the House Judiciary Committee. More details can be found here.
House Bill 2401 establishes a court procedure to safeguard adults’ rights to enjoy visitation in situations where visitation is desired by and in the best interest of the adult, but is being prevented. House Bill 2402 requires a guardian or limited guardian to inform specified relatives as soon as reasonably possible if the incapacitated person dies or has been hospitalized for three or more days, and in the case of death, of any funeral arrangements and the location of the incapacitated persons’ funeral arrangements.
The legislations arises from legal disputes regarding the late Casey Kasem between his wife and children.
