Federal Way high school student pages at the Washington State Legislature

Joshua Lusink served as a legislative page in the Washington State House of Representatives in Olympia the week of Feb.4-8. Lusink is the son of Brad and Jan Lusink. He was sponsored by Rep. Linda Kochmar, R-Federal Way. Joshua is a full-time Running Start student at Highline Community College. “It is always inspiring to see younger generations show an interest in civics and government. Government effects all of our lives. Understanding and participating in the process early will benefit Joshua in the future,” Kochmar said. Each year, students from around the state apply to participate in the legislative page program. Students spend a week attending page school, learning the inner workings of state government and assisting legislators inside the House chamber. To become a page, applicants must have a legislative sponsor, be between the ages of 14 and 16, and obtain written permission from their parents and school.
